Masala Puri

Masala Puri!! Puri with masalas it is literally! A very simple dish which can be eaten as snack or for breakfast. No need of a curry with it, pickle or chutney also will go well with it.

Ingredients

Wheat flour - 2 cups
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Red chili powder - 1 tsp
Cumin-coriander powder - ½ tsp
Sugar - 1 tsp
Ajwain / Carom seeds - 1 tsp
Oil for dough and frying
Salt to taste

Steps to prepare

1. Add all masalas including salt and sugar to dough and bring them together.
2. Add oil incrementally ensuring to stop when the dough becomes crumbly in texture.
3. Now mix the dough by adding water little by little to form a stiff dough.
4. Rest the dough for at least half an hour by covering it with damp cloth or a lid.
5. Later make small balls out of it, roll each ball with a rolling pin and keep aside.
6. Heat oil in a pan to a high temperature, add rolled puris one by one. When one side swells, turn it and fry on another side.
7. Masala puris are ready to be served with pickles or chutney.

Tips

1. Dough should get to crumbly texture, otherwise puris won't turn out to be soft, they will become hard.
2. For puris to fluff, frying in high temperature is required.
3. These tips are applicable to normal puris too.
